Pet Evolution – Unknown Evolution Result
I decided, whilst doing the Sulphurous Waste LB + SS runs, to death level up pets on all my melee Heroes. This is the first time I have death levelled, 100%, pets to level 20.
First character was my Mes. Decided to charm the level 15 Elder Wolves. Death levelled these up to level 20, no problems. Now have 7 level 20 Elder Wolves. Second character was my Ele. Charming the level 15 Elder Wolves was a real pain so decided to go for Level 5 Black Bears, (had lots of LB to get on Ele so levelling these up to 20 was not a problem). Now I know about pet evolution, Hearty, Elder and Dire. I had no idea how these level 5 bears would evolve with 100% death levelling up to 20, and here’s the problem, I still don’t know! All my Heroes, and myself, have Level 20 ‘Black Bears’ but no evolution is shown. Is this a normal result when levelling pets in this way? How do I, if I can, find out what evolution these pets have taken? Thanks in advance for you help. |

type /petname into your chat box and it should show you what yours is. I don't think you can change the name of hero pets yet so they'll be a mystery, but in theory iif they started out at the same level and were all leveled in the same way, they should have the same evolution.

Well, if the pets were dead the whole time the may not evolve. There is a formula of sorts and depending how much damage your pet does/takes determines the evolution. Since your pets were just laying dead the whole time, I highly doubt that they would evolve. The first pet evolution is after level 10 and the second after level 15.
Type /petname or /namepet in town to set the default name to see the evolution. Death leveling a pet is when you have the pet, which you will charm eventually, kill "you" over and over until it levels up. The way it works is the pet is doing 100% of the damage and taking none thus giving you a Dire evolution. They way you are death leveling them is not the same. |

Hmm sounds like a similar experience to what a friend of mine had - Got a level 5 Snow Wolf, levelled it up LB farming, where it was dead most of the time - no evolution.
I've also had a weird experience with my own pet, I trained it to aggressive using a build where I aggroed and the phoenix killed, he was about level 18 and aggressive when I left the game for 8 months, when I came back I finished off his training in regular combats and he got to level 20, but is still aggressive (tried /petname etc). He suffered very few deaths and gained about 95+% of his xp while alive. |

I've had this happen frequently when levelling pets on critters FAR higher level than my pet (either alive or dead). They just don't evolve. They are elder stat wise when unevolved if that helps.

as lennymon stated, an unevolved pet has the same stats as an elder pet, just without the elder tag.
